Outreach Programs
Storytime Ballet
In partnership with the Greenville County Library, International Ballet’s free quarterly programs introduce children to the world of ballet through dance-themed books. The performance/readings allow young children the opportunity to see the costumes and performers up-close and meet the dancers after the show. Over 1,000 children and their families attend a Storytime Ballet performance each season.
Project Pirouette
IB partners with Pleasant Valley Connection, Phillis Wheatley Community Center, and Freedom Within Walls at LEAD Academy to bring free ballet training and performance opportunities to children who may not otherwise have the opportunity or exposure. The program consists of summer camps as well as after-school programs that are incorporated into the existing curriculum at each location. All classes offer performance opportunities. Launched in June 2023, the program has seen great success. IB is grateful to the SC Arts Commission, Jolley Foundation, TD Charitable Foundation, Dodd Law Firm, and generous individuals who have invested in Project Pirouette! The program has sparked a passion for dance in some students, and 6 are now enrolled in more advanced classes at IB. With a vision of making the art of ballet accessible to all, IB strives to remove any barriers for children who wish to study ballet.
Accessibility Class
International Ballet offers free ballet classes for adults and children with intellectual and physical disabilities. Our Adult Accessibility Class meets weekly from September-May at IB, and is taught by our Founder, Lena Forster, with the help of dedicated volunteers. Students perform in a year-end demonstration. Our children's accessibility program occurs at the Meyer Center for Special Children. IB faculty travels twice weekly to the Meyer Center to teach. All Accessibility classes incorporate elements of ballet conditioning to bring movement, fitness, musicality, pleasure, and creativity to the students.
